"Most of our music begins with an acoustic guitar. Sometimes they translate back and forth, and sometimes the songs stay acoustic and sometimes they suck and you never hear them. But there are some that we turn them into rock songs and I think maybe they should kinda stay acoustic style-y because in the last couple of months that we've been doing these shows, I've learned to love them more." -Dave Grohl
And that's exactly what this album is all about. Pure and deceptively simple. Most songs have been stripped down to basics alright, but they have also been reworked and exclusively reinterpreted into a set that radically keeps all the Foos audience on their seats for once.
Songs like 'February Stars', 'My Hero' and 'Another Round' suddenly come alive with emotions, loneliness and meanings - as if they have been revitalised and given completely new (or previously hidden) contexts - something a little more than just really good pop/rock songs. But above all, nothing beats the haunting quality of the star piece like 'Skin and Bones'.
It looks like this is something that is long overdue considered how far the band have come, and perhaps it needs this long for us the listeners to come to love their work in order to appreciate the other reincarnations of the songs which go down like a quick reminder of the legacy spanned over ten years (and counting) of the Foos' career.
A beautiful collection of songs for everyone to listen to whether you are a Foos Head or not. Hardly any self-indulgence when that's what everyone wants, isn' it? - T. Bellamy
