The Wave Pictures return with the latest instalment in their prolific ten-year career. Taken from the forthcoming album of the same name, ‘If You Leave It Alone’ is musically candid, featuring a sparse arrangement of bass, wind and percussion, all of which accompany the familiar humdrumeries of Dave Tattersall’s quivering lyrics. A charming lo-fi affair, ‘If You Leave It Alone’ captures succinctly a moment of regret, its mournfulness heightened by the Wave Pictures’ anti-folk ethos of recording songs in one take. - Hazel Sheffield

The NY scene has moved on since the early 00s but listening to this you be forgiven for thinking The Modern Age EP had just been released. The song is built around a rubbery, Police-esque bassline whilst the other instruments barely justify their inclusion on the track by contributing very little. Frontman Donald Cumming delivers a sub-Casablancas drawl before delivering a section that proves that even achingly-cool New Yorkers can’t pull off spoken word lyrics. Listen to their other stuff instead. - Joe Hooper
