The first single to be released from stellastarr*’s forthcoming new album Civilized, creeps up on you slowly with an unassuming bass and drum intro that sounds for a moment like we’ve unwittingly stumbled into the band’s rehearsal room. But then Shawn and Amanda’s unmistakeable vocals start, the guitars come crashing in for an ecstatic chorus and suddenly it’s like stellastarr* have never been away. Then - it’s all over too quickly! There’s a spatter of applause and we’re left wanting more - do we really have to wait till July for the album?!
‘Graffiti Eyes’ will be released on iTunes on April 20th, and will be featured on Gossip Girl that night (CW, 8pm). You can hear it on their MySpace now! - Isaac Howlett

First off; we love the title. Secondly; this is genuinely interesting and progressive stuff from a band who sound like Mystery Jets and Gold Teeth inhaling serious amounts of helium and having a dance-off while singing Noah and The Whale at the top of their lungs. Sounds crazy; somehow works. And, to show they mean business, b-side DNA (where Mystery Jets gain the upper hand with a well-timed head-spin) continues in much the same vein. There’s definitely a method to their madness. - Isaac Howlett

Unwilling to conform to the traditional styling of the single-single-album release format, Norway's Je Suis Animal return with 'The Mystery of Marie Roget' following the critical acclaim of their debut album Self Taught Magic From a Book.
Sweeping with an insouciant elegance, “The Mystery...''s verve sails beautifully upon the cusp of pop lucidity, washing over psychedelic shores with the ebb and flow of Stereolab, The Concretes and The Velvet Underground circa Nico, only to smooth out the most beauteous of melodic pop pearls with a certain Euro-kitsch. A simply pleasurable release with a Scandinavian twist of bliss. - Thomas Ward
