Alternative Rock 'n' Roll Alternative to...

No. 1 Sunday Roast

There are 2 Alternative Rock 'n' Roll Alternatives to the Great British Sunday Roast.  The first is to pass (i.e. have a line of Bolvarian Marching Powder and march straight down the Pub), the other is known as 'The Vegan Nut Roast', in this case, with a twist!

This recipe serves 4, for the Roast you will need...

Image

1 packet of peanuts or mixed nuts or whatever kind of nuts you like, 1/4 onion, half a dozen of medium-sized mushrooms, 1 clove of garlic, 1 tin of chopped tomatoes, 1 cup of red lentils

For the trimmings you will need...

4 large potatoes, 1 large red pepper, 1 large yellow pepper, 1 courgette, 1 aubergine, a dozen of Brussels sprouts, you will also need olive oil, Marmite (or vegetable stock alternative), sage, rosemary, and vegetable gravy.

Cooking Instructions

-1-

It is very important to uphold a high level of hygiene when preparing the food which is why you must:  (A) wash your hands and  (B) wear the correct headgear.  I like to sport my WWII Russian Fighter Pilots cap and goggles when undertaking such endeavours.

-2-

Wash all of the vegetables.  Peel the potatoes and cut them into 1/8's.  Remove the stalk and seeds from the peppers and 1/4 them.  Dice the courgettes.  Slice the aubergine.  Crush the nuts.  Dice the mushrooms.  Crush or firmly chop the garlic.

-3-

Boil the potatoes for ten minutes.  In the meantime, fry the onion and mushrooms and garlic in a little oil in a pan or wok.  Wait till golden brown then add the tin of chopped tomatoes, nuts, 3-4 pinches of sage, and the lentils.

-4-

Transfer the contents of the wok/pan to a suitable oven proof dish.  Sprinkle quite heavily with vegetable gravy granules for better taste.  Give it a good mix.

-5-

Place the potatoes, peppers, courgettes, aubergine on another oven proof dish and add 2 or 3 tablespoons of oil.  Stir to ensure all of the vegetables are covered and sprinkle with rosemary and garlic.  Place the vegetable in the top of the oven and the Nut Roast in the middle and cook at 200 degrees for 30-40 minutes (or until the potatoes are golden brown).

Naturally, some people forget and burn the food!

-6-

Whilst you're waiting, it is a good idea to clean up to save yourself the trouble when you're fat, bloated and drunk later on in the evening.  Alternatively, you could just throw the washing up in the bin.

-7-

Once 30 minutes have passed, stir fry the Brussels sprouts with salt, pepper and perhaps a little chilli powder.

 -8-

Serve Nut Roast & Trimmings in gravy and garnish with a sprig of fresh rosemary.  Enjoy with a good glass or a bottle of red wine.

Once again, don't forget to wash up.  Keeping clean is the key, kids!  Because you can always come back to the second helping right after all the exercise, like this...
