Question: If you could go back in time, which period would you like to go to and why?

Answer: I?'d probably go back to pre-industrial revolution England. And I say England because that?'s what I know, but at time where a female role is to work on the land a bit during the day so you're out in the seasons here and there..

I'm thinking of the time where I'd be wearing sort of big and flouncy here and maybe some clogs that you can walk through the muddy ground, what are we talking about... 1700's? No, later than that. I'm thinking past of all existence in the countryside. I'd kinda go out everyday in the fields, and fair enough there would be men who would probably be stronger doing harder farm work. But I'd be doing some sort of land work and be closely connected with nature's rhythms. I'm sure that it would be very hard because your imaginative spaces would be slightly kind of shut down because probably you wouldn't be so well educated. But if I could be in the time where I could also be educated to be literate and then I could read and use what I feel create something and put it into maybe writing.

I also like that time because people probably, I say people but men met in like taverns and have proper sing-songs and stuff like that since like proper musical tradition everyday and really rousing and euphoric and real way to relax after you'd been out at the end of the day. I'd like to be part of that but I suspect I wouldn't be able to, I'd have to be home making soups or something. But I will try to rebel out of that (smiles). Maybe I'd be a wedge in a bit of the tavern serving ale or something. It'd still be really hard not to have all the freedom I have now so I'm not sure I'd be very happy but I'd try to be happy.  But I'd probably have one of those boring outfits: grey or Hessian big skirts that you're sort of sewn into in the winter. You might have to just wee in them and everything. That's what they used to do, isn't it? (Laughs)

One of my favourite tales/short stories that I think is wonderful by George Elliot, it's called Silas Marner. And Silas Marner is actually a male character who's a real sort of hermit, lived on the fringes of the village and people think he's an alien and really weird but really he's just had some tragic circumstances, he just lived on the margin of society and this kind of era but he eventually brings up a little orphan girl and he's a wonderful figure to her and she grows up to this person and they kind of have a little garden and a little plot of land and they kind of live happily ever after! Oops! I shouldn't say that because I told [Toby] (bass) to read the book! (Laughs)
