Amber Parkin vs Jess Gardner

For our second round of SUPERSWEET Time Zones, we look at a day in the life of Auckland writer Amber Parkin. Amber is apparently ‘obsessed by cities, photography, coffee, fashion, bikes and public transportation’. She invites us to check out her work at codeforsomething.com.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the world, volunteer Jess Gardner also undergoes the Time Zone photographic dissection. She’s currently teaching and indulging in the occasional bout of ad-hoc dentistry at a school in Cochabamba, Bolivia for Proyecto Horizonte - Uspha Uspha.

08:30 - Amber: Wake up and admire the huge guest room. I'm staying at a friend's house this week.
07:00 - Jess: Cochabamba skyline from my living room.

10:00 - Amber: Fetch coffee then make breakfast at home for my gracious hosts.
08:00 - Jess: Scariest thirty minutes of my day. Everyday.

11:00 - Amber: Breakfast oddly turns into haircuts.
10:00 - Jess: Volunteering our (previously unknown) dentistry skills.

12:00 - Amber: Read reference magazines, find inspiration. Write.
10:30 - Jess: Another satisfied customer.

15:00 - Amber: Feeling chuffed with productivity. Reward self by eating French chocolates I bought in London - in Auckland.
11:00 - Jess: One way to ensure your education.

15.30 - Amber: On the bus to the inner city. People watching ahoy!
12:00 - Jess: The BEST way to eat soup.

16:00 - Amber: Summer Concert Series in Albert Park. We chill out by watching cute puppies and listening to dub sounds.
13:00 - Jess: An early riser during nap-time.

18:00 - Amber: Walking home the long way. Auckland is one big humid mess today.
16:00 - Jess: Doing my best to institute the afternoon cup of tea break into the Bolivian psyche.

20:15 - Amber: The heat means I'm ready for a nap... but I must go out and the socialising must go on.
17:00 - Jess: Picking up supplies at La Cancha market on the way home. I know how she feels.

20:30 - Amber: Dinner with friends. Yummy Laotian food at the Ponsonby Food Court.
20:00 - Jess: Waiting for the most amazing hamburgers you will ever find for approx 75p!

22:00 - Amber: Late night grocery shopping. Ponder buying cheese and having cheese dreams...
22:30 - Jess: Red wine and cards to finish the evening.
