Mari’s hair is actually one of the first things you will learn about her personality. She insists that most hair stylists can’t cut their own hair, the same way that doctors can’t heal themselves. But her signature neon orange ‘mushroom cut’ (as she and her friends jokingly call) is unmistakably very her. Not many would get away with wearing such a bold piece of art on their head like that. Against her pale skin, Mari carries it off effortlessly, which makes us question if hair has a life of its own.
“Hair’s a bit like plants, isn’t it? People are always debating whether plants have life that sometimes grows more if you talk to them.” She thinks carefully for a second, “Maybe! If you’re scared of hair then you can’t control it. If you’re scared to style or cut or do whatever, you’ll never get it done. If you’re not thinking anything, you can do but if you think too much, you worry, and it’s more difficult.
“And if you’re nice to your hair, it’s nice to you too, it will manage itself,” she finishes off with the gentle voice, though with an optimistically ambitious tone. If only the world would open up to her bright orange glow a little more and let her dabble the colour here and there as she goes, it wouldn’t be that long before the whole dress code for offices coup finally started.
